The Hourglass department provides support services to college athletic teams, oversees the athletic facilities, and is in charge of facility rentals. I served in a leadership and supervisory role among a diverse workforce while my supervisor was absent on maternity leave. I was responsible for negotiating and scheduling rental contact of college facilities outside instructional use with patrons serving over 50 user groups. I took part in various projects, including departmental website updates, creating the initial department employee handbook, inventory management, and requisition of supplies. Since Hourglass facilities are jointly owned by the City of San Diego and Miramar College, I assisted with conflict resolution, communication, and coordination between patrons, college staff, and City personnel. Monitoring department budget and reporting to supervisors, improving departmental communication, and providing support for intercollegiate sports teams and exercise science-related courses are examples of my day-to-day work.
